Attila Fazekas received his M.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, in 1992. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1999 and his habilitation in 2004. He held a postdoctoral position at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2000 to 2002. He has been working at the University of Debrecen since 1992 and has served as an associate professor since 2005.
Attila Fazekas's main research areas are image processing and machine learning. He has also published several papers related to various problems in multimodal human-computer interaction and medical image processing.
He has authored or co-authored more than 120 scientific publications. His achievements have been recognized by several awards, including the János Bolyai Research Fellowship and the Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship.
From 2009 to 2013, he served as the Chief IT Officer of the University of Debrecen, and from 2013 to 2019, he was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Informatics.
Prof. Fazekas is a senior member of the IEEE, a member of the John von Neumann Computer Society, and a member of the Public Body of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He was the head of the Hungarian Association for Image Analysis and Pattern Recognition from 2007 to 2011.
