abstract:
How to facilitate language teachers' assessment literacy? Lessons from the Erasmus+ TALE Project The attitudes, knowledge and skills related to efficient assessment practices have been recently summarized under the umbrella term "Language Assessment Literacy" (LAL). There has been considerable research inthe field of LAL with a focus on theoretical conceptualisations, needs analyses for teachers, etc. However, the needs of teachers and learners have not yetbeen established simultaneously with a view to designing open-access training material for teachers. With funding from the European Union, the project ♭Teachers'Assessment Literacy Enhancement (TALE)'set out to create an online course in LAL. In the first phase of the project, a needs analysis survey was carried out involving 852 English language teachers and 1788 language learners in Cyprus, Germany, Greece and Hungary. Respondents were asked about their assessment practices, confidence in using assessments, and LAL training needs. The results revealed that alternative, student-centred forms of assessment are employed much less frequently than traditional forms of assessment.
