abstract:
The paper gives an overview of the grammar of parallel Hungarian andEnglish focus phenomena and outlines an account in the framework of Lexical-FunctionalGrammar (LFG). Focus constructions are subject to variation with respect to their grammaticalproperties both within and across the two languages. The LFG framework is well-suited torepresent this variation in a systematic way and, at the same time, to capture at the level ofinformation-structure the shared contribution that various focus constructions make.
